Our Itinerary
Day 1 I Monday: Tel Aviv - Casablanca
Arrive to Casablanca, the largest economic metropolis in modern Morocco. Upon arrival, we'll conduct a city tour: exploring both the new and the old city, visiting the bustling market at Place Mohammed V, and admiring the exterior of one of the most impressive buildings in Morocco, inaugurated in the 1990s as the largest mosque in the Maghreb, the Hassan II Mosque. We'll be impressed by its architectural beauty and stroll along the promenade overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Overnight stay and dinner in Casablanca.
Day 2 | Tuesday: Casablanca - Rabat - Tangier
In the morning, we'll embark on a journey to the Moroccan capital, Rabat, one of the four imperial cities of Morocco. We'll explore the vastness of the Royal Palace of King Mohammed VI and admire the splendor of the entrance to the Royal Palace. We'll also be impressed by the Hassan Tower, Tour Hassan, an archaeological site of the ancient mosque that was supposed to be the largest in the world, offering a breathtaking view of the sea and the country surrounding it. We'll continue our visit to the picturesque streets of Kasbah of the Udayas, the most beautiful point in Rabat located near the ocean, with its houses painted in blue and white. After the tour of picturesque Kasbah, we'll head north to the beautiful city of Tangier, located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea not far from the Strait of Gibraltar, a city with a strong Spanish influence that introduces visitors to the Andalusian culture of the Mediterranean coast. Overnight stay and dinner in Tangier.
Day 3 I Wednesday: Tangier - Tetouan - Chefchaouen, the Blue City
This morning we bid farewell to Tangier after hearing the tale of Hercules, according to Greek mythology, who, in a fit of madness, threw his three sons into the fire. After understanding his actions, he consulted the Oracle of Delphi, who imposed twelve tasks upon him (we'll learn about them during the tour). We'll admire the cave located at the tip of Spartel Cape, serving as a meeting point between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, offering a spectacular view of the Rock of Gibraltar. We'll explore a little more of Tangier, and on our way to the Blue City, we'll stop to visit Tetouan, which until 1956 was the capital city of Spanish Morocco. We'll see the Royal Palace of Hassan II, built by Moulay Ismail in the 17th century. We'll visit the city with its small squares and local markets. In the evening, we'll reach the Blue City, Chefchaouen, for overnight stay and dinner.
Day 4 | Thursday: Chefchaouen - Meknes - Fes
This morning, we'll spend a little more time getting to know the "Blue City" and enjoy a cup of tea made from the leaves in one of the picturesque tea houses in the city. After the tour, we'll continue our journey through the plains of the Sebou River to the town of Ouazzane, where we'll hear the story of Rabbi Amram ben Diwan, a well-known Jewish historical figure associated with the life and work of the "miracle worker." We'll continue our journey southward towards the city of Meknes, the fifth largest city in Morocco and one of the four royal cities. We'll stroll along its walls, explore the impressive Lahdim Square, and hear the story of Sultan Moulay Ismail with his thousand sons and hundreds of wives who built the city. We'll continue to stay overnight in the city of Fes. Overnight stay and dinner in Fes.
Days 5-6 | Friday and Saturday - Around the City of Fes
Two full days dedicated to the great city of Fes, one of the oldest cities in Morocco. Established in the 9th century, it has always served as the spiritual capital of Morocco and all the Maghreb countries. During our tour of Fez, we will explore the Medina, the oldest quarter of the city, where artisans have been working to this day. We will also visit the Jewish cemetery in Mellah, where we'll hear the story of Lalla Solika. We won't miss a visit to the Ibn Danan Synagogue, where we'll hear the story of Maimonides' famous water clock. We'll return to the hotel to explore the city's picturesque markets. Accommodation and dinner in Fez, and on Saturday evening, we'll attend a folklore show in Fes.
Day 7 | Sunday - From Fes to the Sahara Desert
This morning, we'll leave the royal city of Fez for a long journey southward. We'll start our journey passing through the cedar forests in the Middle Atlas region. We'll make a brief stop in Ifrane, known as the Switzerland of Morocco, situated in the heart of the splendid mountain region. If time permits, we'll meet the friendly Barbary macaques living in the Atlas Mountains region before continuing our journey southward, passing through nomadic shepherd villages in the Ziz Valley. By noon, we'll notice a climate change as we enter the Sahara Desert region, where we'll encounter the distinctive mudbrick kasbahs. We'll cross palm groves and desert oases until we reach Erfoud, a city once inhabited by the Abou Khazra family. Erfoud is considered the gateway to the great and central desert valley of Ziz. We'll spend the night in the Erfoud area in one of the beautiful kasbahs, which now serves as a hotel. Accommodation and dinner in the Erfoud area.
Day 8 | Monday - Erfoud - Toghda Gorge - Ouarzazate
Early in the morning, before sunrise, we'll wake up and embark on jeeps to explore the vast sand dunes of Merzouga. We'll climb to a vantage point to witness the breathtaking sunrise over the Sahara. We'll glide on the soft sand and marvel at the view of the thousands of palm trees sprawling at the foot of the dunes. We'll head west towards the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. We'll be impressed by the irrigation system - the underground tunnels that bring water from the mountains to the desert. We'll hike through the unique Tudgha Gorge, descending from the Atlas Mountains, and reminisce about Shlomo Artzi's song, of course. We'll continue to our accommodation and dinner in Ouarzazate (the sunrise tour might be changed to a sunset tour depending on weather conditions).
Day 9 | Tuesday - Ouarzazate - Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou - Marrakech
This morning, we'll head north along the ancient kasbah route, passing through small towns nestled in the heart of the desert. Our first stop will be at the most famous kasbah, Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou - a UNESCO World Heritage Site that uniquely depicts life in the region with its picturesque mudbrick houses. From here, we'll head north through the Tizi Tichka Pass, "the shepherd's pass," which rises to an altitude of 2,550 meters above sea level. We'll continue our journey through picturesque villages until we reach Marrakech - accommodation and dinner in Marrakech.
Day 10 | Wednesday - Marrakech - The Red City and the sites
Today, we'll explore "the Red City," also known as "the heart of Morocco." First, we'll visit the Koutoubia Mosque, with its 77-meter-high minaret, visible from every corner of the city and from many kilometers away. We'll wander through the streets of Mellah, where Jews still live, and visit the El Azama Synagogue to hear its unique story. We'll continue our first tour of the markets and the picturesque Jemaa el-Fna square. We'll get to know Morocco's rich world of spices with an unforgettable visit to the most interesting spice shop in Morocco. From here, we'll move on to explore the famous market in Marrakech, where they say, "In Marrakech, you can find everything." Towards evening, we'll arrive at the central square to stroll among the enchanting stalls, magicians, and other entertainers during the most beautiful time of the day. Accommodation and dinner in Marrakech.
Day 11 - Marrakech - Ourika Valley - Flight back Home
After breakfast, we'll travel to the Ourika Valley, located at the foot of the High Atlas and fed by the melting snow. Along the way, we'll see dozens of picturesque Berber villages built of mud bricks and stop for views of villages perched on the mountainside. We'll continue along the lush valley with its gardens, terraces, and fruitful trees. Along the way, there are small restaurants located in stunning landscapes. We'll visit a typical Berber house built of mud bricks and see the Berber way of life. After the tour, we'll return to Marrakech for a final shopping spree and from there, we'll depart for the Marrakech Airport, from where we'll board a flight back.
