Day Excursion: Exploring the Samarian Region - Delving into the World of the Samaritans, Mount Gerizim, and the Local Settlements

A fascinating geographical and cultural day to one of the lesser-known regions of the country: a tour that combines a visit to the ancient Samaritan community in the region considered the heartland of Israel. The Samaritans are located in the heart of the central mountain ridge that crosses the Land of Israel from Mount Carmel in the north to Mount Hebron in the south.

Our Suggested Itinerary - Explore a past Aujo Travel trip for your next adventure

We will start the tour by traveling on Route 5, known as the "Samaria Crossroad," and make our way to Grizim National Park, located atop the biblical Mount Gerizim. From there, we will embark on a comprehensive tour that includes panoramic views and explore the sanctity of the place in the eyes of the nearby Samaritan community, from a historical and contemporary perspective. At the end of the tour, we will descend on foot to the Samaritan neighborhood of Tel Tzofim, and explore the Sacrifice Site, the main street, the Samaritan synagogue, the famous mill, the neighborhood grocery store, and other sites related to the community, all while enjoying fascinating human encounters. Together with members of the Samaritan community, we will try to depict the daily lives of the ancient Samaritan community and the traditions that have been preserved to this day.

We will then continue to a special lookout over the city of Shechem and the Valley of the Vineyards, overlooking the most luxurious villa in Israel, belonging to a Muslim tycoon, and hear the unique story surrounding the place. Finally, we will make our way to Elon Moreh and Mount Kabir, embark on a very brief observation tour against the stunning backdrop of Shechem and its surroundings, including the Jordan Valley, juxtaposing reality with tradition. If time permits, we will head to one of the unique and high lookouts in Samaria: the Three-Day Lookout, and discuss the settlement issue for both Jews and Muslims in the region. Towards the end of the day, we will journey through changing landscapes back to the village of Huwara and the Valley of the Vineyards, and from there to the last surprising observation point of the day: the State's Balcony in the settlement of Peduel, where we will have a panoramic view of the entire Dan Bloc spread out before us, from Hadera in the north to Ashdod in the south.

Here we will conclude and return to the pickup stations along the way.
