Seychelles: Navigating the Geographical Wonders of Paradise Islands

Embark on a deep geographical sailing expedition to one of the most beautiful regions in the Indian Ocean, the Seychelles Islands. Our sailing journey allows us to reach the most stunning places in the archipelago, which are visited by only a few tourists. On some islands, we will navigate and explore hiking trails through rainforests, climb the granite peaks with breathtaking views, and enjoy the fascinating biological world of the island: such as the giant Aldabra tortoise, coconut palm trees with large seeds, and the nesting colonies of frigatebirds and nesting sea turtles.

During the sailing and snorkeling activities, we will also have the opportunity to swim with dolphins and explore guided snorkeling in rich and colorful coral reefs. It's a journey to a true paradise, away from the human tourist beaches, within a marvelous and enchanting landscape that we will experience with rare and unique nature.

Our Suggested Itinerary - Explore a past Aujo Travel trip for your next adventure

Day 1 | Mahe

Upon arrival, we will connect with the local team and embark on a journey to the yacht that will accompany us in the coming days. Our private yacht can accommodate a group of up to 18 travelers with a full crew at our disposal (all rooms with private toilets and showers). The boat will anchor each night in a magnificent bay. At the beginning of the journey, we will have a spectacular view of the high mountain range of the main island, rainforests surrounded by coconut palms. In the evening, we will have a festive opening cocktail and a chef's dinner that will introduce us to the excellent Creole cuisine.

Day 2 | Praslin Island

In the morning, we will wake up at the shores of Praslin Island, the second-largest island in the archipelago, where one of the beautiful nature reserves of Fond Ferdinand is located. Here, we find the world's largest concentration of coconut palms with the largest coconut seed in nature, whose unique shape surprisingly resembles a woman's hip basin. In the mini nature reserve, we will learn about endemic animals and plants that we will encounter. We will continue to the next reserve on the island, the Valle de Mai Nature Reserve, where dense tropical forests with towering coconut palm trees are home to the black parrot, endemic to the Seychelles, considered the only place in the world where it resides.

Day 3 | Curieuse Island

This morning, we will visit the small island inhabited by the largest population of giant tortoises in Seychelles, aside from Aldabra Atoll. We will walk along the beaches and visit the mangrove trees, known for their unique root system that grows upwards and creates a protected system for many fish species. In the afternoon, we will spend time in one of the island's coves, where we will embark for the first time on a guided snorkeling tour with a variety of colorful corals. Additionally, kayaks will be available on the ship for those interested in reaching more remote and less accessible coves.

Day 4 | Aride Island - Bird and Booby Island

In the morning, we will depart from our anchor at Aride Island to one of the most untouched islands in the archipelago, suffering the least from human disturbances. Throughout the year, birds nest on the island's land, and due to the lack of human intervention, it is possible to get very close to them. Certain species nesting on Aride Island on small branches are very close to the ground. After breakfast, we will descend to Bird Island, where perhaps we will also encounter the impressive white-tailed python and frigatebirds, birds with a unique wing inflation method that emphasizes the chest pouch in bright red. After the visit to the island, we will head to snorkeling, swimming, and a glimpse into the colorful and marvelous underwater world of the Seychelles, the charming Booby Land.

Day 5 | Sisters Islands

Today will be dedicated to the islands that seem to have emerged from Robinson Crusoe's tales. After breakfast, we'll land on one of the Sisters Islands, an uninhabited island that has served as a coconut plantation. The island is famous for its stunning color combinations – lush green forests, turquoise lagoons, and dark pink rocks. We will explore the island and savor the experience of being on a secluded island in the heart of the Indian Ocean. We'll climb to the island's summit for a 360-degree view of the island, its shores, and the chain of islands surrounding it. After lunch, we'll sail to Cocos Island – a small enchanting island with beautiful lagoons and one of the best snorkeling sites in the archipelago. We'll spend the afternoon snorkeling with the gem-rich and colorful coral reefs. In the evening, we'll enjoy a different perspective of the underwater world during a guided night snorkeling session with vibrant and colorful coral formations.

Day 6 | La Digue Island

La Digue Island is one of the smaller and main inhabited islands of Seychelles, with a population of 2,000 residents who live peacefully in close harmony with nature. Almost no motorized vehicles are found on the island, with bicycles being the main mode of transportation. The island boasts a unique history, and despite the stunning beaches on all the islands, some claim that La Digue has the most beautiful beaches in the world! After breakfast, we'll explore the island, opting to do so like the locals – on bicycles. For those not accustomed to cycling, a special vehicle converted for transporting tourists will be available. We'll pass through the small and charming town and reach the Vanilla Plantation – an interesting cultivation originating from the nearest large island, Mahe. We'll visit the beautiful colonial-style vanilla plantation houses brought by the Europeans who introduced vanilla to the islands. From here, we'll continue by bike to the Veuve Nature Reserve, where unique bird species, some of the rarest in the world, such as the Paradise Flycatcher, can be observed. Afternoon exploration will include a hiking trail to the island's summit, concluding the day with a walk (and a dip, of course) on the most picturesque and famous beaches in the Seychelles: Anse Source D'Argent and Grande Anse.

Day 7 | Cousin Island and Saint Anne Marine National Park

After breakfast, we'll visit an island that is entirely a rich nature reserve teeming with diverse wildlife. Here, we'll encounter the giant land tortoises of the Seychelles, the largest in the world (some individuals weighing over 300 kg). The island is home to a variety of nesting birds, including the Noddies and the sooty tern. Additionally, we'll encounter various turtles, colorful crabs, and a vibrant world of insects. We'll climb to the island's peak for a breathtaking view, capturing images of different seabirds in flight. After lunch, we'll navigate to Mahé, circumnavigating the northern part of the island in the Saint Anne Marine National Park. In the evening, we'll celebrate our farewell on the yacht and leave the next day.

Day 8 | Mahé

After breakfast, we'll bid farewell to the yacht and its crew and embark on a grand tour of the Seychelles islands, starting with the mountainous Mahé. We'll begin the tour by climbing to the central granite ridge for an overview of the northern part of the island and the archipelago we sailed through during the week. It provides an excellent vantage point to bid farewell to the islands. We'll descend through a beautiful forest, rich with unique shrubs and large flowers, and then board the bus to visit Victoria – the capital of the Seychelles, also the smallest capital in the world, with a population of 25,000 residents. We'll explore the vibrant market and leave time for free roaming. After lunch (and a shower!), we'll travel to the airport for our return flight, laden with experiences from paradise.
