Day 1 I Colombo

Upon landing, we head north to Dambulla to visit the Buddhist cave complex. The caves are adorned with wall paintings and are considered one of the important Buddhist centers globally. We explore the Dambulla Rock Temple built in the 1st century BCE, a complex of five caves that is impressive in Sri Lanka. The caves feature wall and ceiling paintings with over 150 images of Buddha, and a 14-meter-high rock-carved Buddha statue. Overnight stay in Dambulla.

Day 2 I Dambulla – Polonnaruwa

After breakfast, we will visit Polonnaruwa, the second capital of Sri Lanka from the 11th to 12th centuries, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We explore the Royal Palace, Gal Vihara, a remarkable rock-carved Buddha statue group considered a pinnacle of Sinhalese art, and the Lotus Pond, showcasing the architectural creations of King Parakramabahu the Great. In the afternoon, we take a walking tour through fields to a local village, visit a farmer's house, and enjoy fresh coconut juice with the family. Return to Dambulla for an overnight stay.

Day 3 I Sigiriya Rock – Spice Gardens – Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage – Kandy

After breakfast, we travel to Sigiriya, one of the eight wonders of the ancient world. The rock fortress, shaped like a giant lion, features delicate and beautiful ancient wall paintings that have retained their original colors for over 2000 years. We climb to the top, passing ancient frescoes, to the "Sigiriya Rock Fortress," built in the 5th century BCE. We then head towards Pinnawala, visit the elephant orphanage, and witness the daily bathing ritual of the elephants, one of the world's famous sites for caring for orphaned elephants. From Pinnawala, we continue to Matale to visit spice gardens and learn about the renowned spices that earned Sri Lanka the title "Land of Spices." Our journey then takes us to Kandy, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 4 I Kandy – Temple of the Tooth – Folklore Show

This morning, we will witness the captivating daily rituals at the Temple of the Tooth, an important pilgrimage site and home to the sacred tooth relic of Buddha. After exploring Kandy, the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings, we will visit Peradeniya to explore the beautiful botanical gardens with diverse plant life. In the evening, we take a boat ride in the city and enjoy a unique folklore show. Overnight stay and dinner in Kandy.

Day 5 I Kandy – Nuwara Eliya

This morning, we will continue our beautiful journey through hills adorned with fascinating tea plantations, heading towards fields where tea leaves are harvested (two or three from each plant). Ceylon tea is famous worldwide, and most of it is exported. In Colombo, there is a special market for various types of tea. Towards the evening, we will reach our hotel, check into our rooms, and embark on a walking tour in Nuwara Eliya, known as "Little England." The climate here is perfect, with clean air and slightly cool evenings, a refreshing change from the tropical climate prevalent on the island. It's an excellent place to connect with the soul through meditation. Overnight stay and dinner in Nuwara Eliya.

Day 6 I Kandy - Nuwara Eliya through Tea Estates

Early in the morning, we travel through green and mountainous landscapes to the plains of Horton, in the southern part of the large mountainous region. In the background stands the highest mountain on the island, Pedro, at 2,524 meters. The reserve preserves the high plateau landscapes (over 2,000 meters) and the unique alpine vegetation: lakes and alpine vegetation surrounded by hills, pine forests covered with fog, and majestic adorned trees with hundreds of fruit bats. At the edge of the reserve, there is a steep cliff falling hundreds of meters southward into the plains. This is a wildlife reserve and the only one that allows visitors to walk on foot. We take advantage of this opportunity to take a circular walking route, reaching the "End of the World" nature site, hoping to encounter the unique wildlife in the area, including the endemic Bear Monkey and Sambar Deer. After a day of exploring the Horton Plains, we take a special train ride to one of the highlights of the Sri Lanka tour, the town of Ella, where we will stay overnight and have dinner.

Day 7 I Ella – Ella Rock – Udawalawe

This morning, we will wake up in one of the most beautiful regions of Sri Lanka, popular for hiking trips. Ella, as it is called by the locals, is considered by the residents of Sri Lanka as an area reminiscent of the English countryside. The landscape here is dominated by green hills and enchanting views integrated into the tea plantations. From here, we continue on a long and winding journey descending from the mountains to the Udawalawe Savannah region. Here we will spend the night. Overnight stay and dinner in Udawalawe.

Day 8 I Udawalawe – Yala

This morning, we will continue our unforgettable safari experience in the savannah of the Yala Nature Reserve. This reserve covers a wide variety of landscapes, from forests, streams, and seashores to towering rocks. We will explore charming corners and hope to encounter a diverse range of wildlife: elephants, leopards, crocodiles, monkeys, birds, and more. After the safari, we head towards the most beautiful beach area in Sri Lanka, where surfers and vacationers often gather. Here, we will spend the night. Overnight stay and dinner in Mirissa.

Day 9 I Mirissa – Galle - Kitugala

This morning, we will enjoy a bit more of the beautiful beaches and the hotel's swimming pool. The first part of the day will be dedicated to relaxation and leisure at the hotel facilities. Towards noon, we set out on a journey to the area of the precious gem mines of Sri Lanka. The island of Ceylon is known for its wealth of precious gems extracted from the depths of the earth. After visiting the gem mining area, we will continue to a place that preserves the tradition of mask-making passed down from father to son. We will learn about the life of the local merchant and understand why he preserves this tradition. After touring the surroundings, we will return to Kitugala for an overnight stay and dinner.

Day 10 I Kitugala – Galle Fort – Colombo

After breakfast, we will embark on a boat trip in the Kitugala area. This is a small village of fishermen located by the mouth of the Madu River. We navigate into these freshwaters, which mix with the seawater, passing between the islands and mangrove forests. We will see the fishermen's lifestyle and the abundance of birds. The locals mainly cultivate cinnamon bark for sale, along with cinnamon oil. We continue to Koggala – a beach village where a remarkable project of sea turtle conservation takes place. In Sri Lanka, five species of sea turtles live, all of which are endangered, mainly due to egg collection for food and the medicinal properties of turtle parts. The project purchases locally collected eggs after laying and transfers them to "nurseries" protected from predators. The small turtles emerge in protected conditions and are released into the sea. Over two years, this project has successfully released tens of thousands of turtles. After this meaningful visit, we head to Colombo, the capital city, for a vibrant city tour and visits to its central sites. We will have dinner in Colombo. Short overnight stay in Colombo.
