Day 1 I Rovaniemi
Upon arrival in the evening, we will sign for the special snow equipment that will accompany us during the winter days in Lapland, receive the warm clothing and special snow boots that will accompany us during the winter adventure. We will settle in the hotel that will host us in the coming days in the wintry town of Rovaniemi, have dinner, and prepare for the expected adventure journey.
Day 2 I Snowshoeing in Rovaniemi Forests - Husky Farm
This morning we will embark on our first winter experience and go for a walk in the snowy forests surrounding Rovaniemi. We will walk among the trees and snow mushrooms and have a picnic in the heart of the forest as only Gadi can prepare. After the pleasant picnic experience, we will continue to the husky farm, where we will get to know the intelligent dogs and go with them on a special sleigh ride on the snow trail in the special and experiential landscape (riding in pairs).
Day 3 I Snowmobile Safari - Snow Fishing
This morning, after organizing the equipment, we will have a short snow driving lesson, and then we will go for our first outdoor activity: riding through the white landscapes of Lapland will immediately make us fall in love with the sparkling and clean snow. During the snowmobile ride, we will pass through snowy pine forests, frozen lakes, and rivers (riding in pairs). After the snowmobile activity, we will discover how the locals fish in the freezing cold of Lapland, join a group of fishermen, and observe their actions. In the afternoon, we will return to Rovaniemi and go for another challenging activity, the unique karting track of Rovaniemi, where we will compete in car races with our team members. After the activity, we will go for dinner and stay at our hotel in Rovaniemi.
Day 4 I Ranua Wildlife Park - Arctic Museum
This morning, we will visit one of the most fascinating and interesting wildlife parks in the world: Ranua Wildlife Park, which offers a unique opportunity to get to know the wild animals of the northern boreal forest in their unique environment. In the park, there are about 50 species of different and diverse animals such as polar bears, gray wolves, red pandas, brown bears, and many others. From here, we will continue to the Arctic - the Arctic Museum. The museum is divided into several wings and deals with the culture of the Sami (the indigenous population of Lapland) and the local history of the region. Another part deals with the Arctic North and the bear circle - its various aspects: living and growing, and unique natural phenomena related to the area.
Day 5 I Kourouma Waterfalls - Northern Lights - Aurora Borealis
After breakfast, we will depart from Rovaniemi eastward towards the border with the Russian Federation. We will pass through endless icy deserts, snowy areas, remote villages, and small towns until we reach the Korouma Nature Reserve. From the upper parking lot, we will descend slowly and carefully on the winding road down to the canyon and reach the bottom of the frozen waterfalls where ice climbers from all over the world arrive. If the weather conditions and road conditions permit, we will go for a walk in the canyon and see the icicles just above us. Of course, even on this hiking route, we will have a wonderful picnic in the area and continue to Rovaniemi. If the forecast for the Northern Lights is good, we will go to a special observation point for the "Aurora", the Northern Lights, from a good observation point. (Throughout the trip, the guide and local team are linked to an application that provides an accurate forecast of the chances of seeing the Northern Lights).
Day 6 I North Reindeer Farm - Walk in the Northern Forests
Today, after breakfast, we will go to a family-owned reindeer farm: at the local farm, we will meet the locals who have maintained for hundreds of years a tradition of managing agricultural farms in the complex climate of the northern hemisphere. Upon arrival at the farm, we will learn a little about the local Sami folklore and go on a special journey riding the northern reindeer. After the fascinating ride, we will have a traditional lunch in a typical wooden house and continue for a final walking tour in the forests surrounding Rovaniemi. Overnight and dinner in Rovaniemi.
Day 7 I Rovaniemi - Santa Claus Village
This morning we will visit the Santa Claus Village, a village built as a tourist gimmick by the Finns in the 1980s, attracting thousands of tourists every year who come to enjoy the Christmas experience of the holiday also in the other winter months.
